Pantherophis alleghaniensis

Dinner was over. I made a fruit shake for the girls for a treat since we ate dinner so early. I headed to the girls linen closet to get some diapers. When I put the box of diapers back in the closet I noticed there was a snake in the corner of the closet. This isn't the first time I've found a snake in our home. There was one about a year and a half ago during some major storms with tons of water. Lillian followed my orders to take Miriam to the other side of the house. I grabbed the broom and remembered the fine skills I learned from the Crocodile Hunter. Any time I've ever seen someone handle snakes, Alligators or Crocodiles, they always seem to pull them from behind. I'm not that brave, but what I did was with a broom, semi trap the back of the snake and pushed him/her(? didn't check) backwards. It totally worked. I gently pushed him out the door. Once in the grass, the snake quickly climbed the fence, I suppose to get a good look around, and just hung out. Since it was at a distance and relaxed, we got to study it a bit more and take these pictures. It hung around the fence for about an hour (we kept checking through the window. I hope it sticks around to help eat any rodents, however I also fear for its life, we have quite a few cats in the area and apparently they'll take care of snakes. It looked pretty skinny so hopefully it will find something to eat pretty soon.
