Grandma Gerry has passed away

My Grandma Gerry passed away yesterday. Valerie, Lillian are in Chicago to attend her funeral and be with family. I posted the obituary from the Chicago Tribune below. My grandmother was an amazing woman. She had a passion for so many things above all her family and faith in God. Up to the very end she had a zest for life and enjoyed all parts of it. Just some weeks ago she was in Daytona and was taking great pleasure in choosing a new puppet and books for Lillian. On that same day we went to lunch and she still had the excitement of ordering apple pie and ice cream. I was happy to help her finish it. The obituary below mentions her selfless soul which I think was very true of her. For those who don't know her, apart from raising three wonderful children, she wrote an autobiography, a book of her own poems, and also worked for several years selling Disney films. She also was very active with the sisterhood of her synagogue. She enjoyed traveling and our extended family shared many of these adventures with her. We all loved her very much and have countless memories of her.

Pearl "Gerry" Duhl, nee Gierman, June 28, 1921-March 20, 2007, beloved wife for 63 years of Irwin "Irish" Duhl; devoted mother of Harriet (Richard) Arons, Joel (Peggy) Duhl and Cheryl (Dennis) Hanno; dearest grandmother of Carrie (Kabir) Udeshi, Garrett Arons, Clayton (Valerie) Duhl, Katie Link, Eric Hanno and Andrew Arons; adoring great-grandmother of Kylie Sierra Link and Lillian Rose Duhl; loving sister of the late Louis (Marcella) Gierman, Sylvia (the late Hyman) Lesk and the late Sam Duhl; fond aunt of many. Her cherished and selfless soul will live on through all who have known her. Chapel Service Friday, 10 a.m. at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights.
